{Made by PH} Ballerina Princess Dress for little C

I could not quite remember when was the last time I sew, my duo's closets are pretty full with mommy's handmades and I had been really busy with many other things that my poor machine was collecting dust. I just did not had a strong desire nor reason to sew.

But I was sleepless last night, no matter how I tossed and turned I just could not fell asleep. So I decided it's time to visit my little mac.

The outcome? My little girl has another new dress.

It took me about 2 hours, converting my way-too-skinny singlet top to the bodice, and the chiffon gold fabric into her ballerina skirt. I really love this Royal gold color. Looking stunning under the sun.

Added a small cape to make it princess-like. Little C loves everything princess-ty ever since she watched Frozen. Princess Elsa is her all time favorite.. and I guess millions of little girls' favorite too.

The golden buttons are put to good use finally. I really had no idea what to used them for previously..

Little C is having her very first ballet trial class this week and she is so looking forward to it, she insists to practice dancing with me at home through YouTube's guide (mind you, she is only 3.5yo but has a determination of a 35yo!)

I hope this is a pleasant surprise for her to show how mommy supports her. :)

What you need to replicate this project? The materials are as in pic below, plus some threads, a pair of scissors and 2 buttons to buckle on the cape.

Finally my skinny top has found a new purpose. :)

Royal Selangor Hard Knocks Workshop, Fun Family Day!

Looking for a fun yet educational day trip with your little ones? Do drop by to Royal Selangor @ Setapak, KL. It is about 10 minutes away from city center (they provide free shuttle service from city center) and there are ample of parking available.

Upon entering, we were greeted by the world largest pewter tankard. It's a landmark of the center and you won't missed it.

The friendly staff welcomed us at the entrance and walked us throughout the whole visit. I would really give a thumb up for the friendly service we received here.

• The Museum

First sight was this miniature of the mining dredge, modeled after the real dredge used by the miners in Malaya decades ago. Selangor Pewter, the former name before the rebranding, was founded by Mr Yong Koon back in 1885 and it is now a well known Malaysian brand.

Swarf, the waste from the pewter production. They are all reused into making pewter products such as pots, cups. The duo tried to push this huge pile of waste (1578kg!!) and that really gave us cold sweat..

The wall of hands. Palm prints from the long serving Royal Selangor factory workers. I like a company who respects and values their employees.

The miniature KLCC twin towers made of pewter mugs was an iconic sight within the center.

The Factory

The workers at various stations demonstrated the making from melted pewter to the finished products.

Moulding
The pewter is melted at 245°c and cold down within seconds by dipping into the water.

Polishing
Standing at the back is our friendly guide.

Soldering
The pewter cup has now taken form.

Finishing
Noticed the end product at the right?

The Hard Knocks Workshop

At RM60/pax (before GST), the workshop includes hands on guide & materials, the participants get to take home their completed product (a bowl), a certificate and an apron. A real worthy deal if you ask me!

The bright workshop, can easily accommodate 20 pax or more.

The tools provided.

The little participant concentrating at work.

Knock knock knock!

The end product. Engraved with their names, by themselves.

The Cafe

Royal Selangor Visitor Center has an onsite cafe at the ground floor facing the green lush garden, we love the natural lighting and the delightful pastry. It was nice and quiet until groups of visitors flooded in - this place is very popular with the foreigners, as it is highly rated by the Trip Advisor.

The luncheon.

The sandwiches and penne pasta were decent, not super fantastic but healthy & satisfying. However, you must try their chocolate muffin and pecan pie, they were seriously delicious that we started eating without taking any pictures of them!

The Gallery

The trip is not complete without a visit to their gallery to admire the beautiful handmades. From mugs, bowls, picture frames, to cufflins, Lord of the Rings character wine glass & chessboards, Royal Selangor has evolved into a modern art master after decades of refinements. It is not a must to buy anything from their gallery, so no worries ;)

But just so you know, the coming soon addition is the ever popular Star Wars series!! Don't miss it if you are a Star Wars fan..

Overall it was a very pleasant visit, from customer service, facilities, cleanliness to readiness to serve. The only complain we have is the danger of the uncovered drainage in the garden next to the cafe. My good friend's 4yo daughter accidentally fell into the drain and suffered some cuts on her thigh. I have lodged a complain to their facebook site and hopefully immediate action will be taken.

Visiting Info
Do allow about 1 - 1.5 hours for the visit and a sip at the cafe. I would recommend to contact the workshop and make a reservation to avoid disappointment, as this place is really popular with the tourists - we spotted 6 tourist buses as we left the center.

{Product Review} Althea, one cool Online Korea Beauty Shop!

Most of you should know by now that I am not a fashion nor beauty blogger. I am a fulltime working mom a.k.a. FTWM with 2 little ones who run food & parenting blogs on my spare time to share many creative & fun ideas that I though are worth sharing.

While I need to juggle my time between work, family and ensuring I spend quality time with the kiddos, I have really limited "ME" time. However, that is no excuse to not to take good care of myself. It's every woman's right to feel good and feel pretty.

However, I find it tough to shop for beauty products, as I hardly go windowshopping  and I could not trust the authenticity of the products on sale with those unknown online stores. But now I have discovered Althea, the new online stores offering Korea beauty product straight from Korea. How I know I could trust them? A closed friend of mine in the beauty line assured me as she knows them in person. She also informed that they have the lowest prices. So out of curiosity, I checked out their website and now I'm hooked!

After having placed and received my first order, I shall share with you what I like about Althea.

• I like how they bubble wrapped each and every item, and carefully place papers around the boxes to further protect all the fragile products.

• I like their promises - printed on their website and on the lovely pink box. Free shipping for purchase above RM150 and unconditional return in 30 days!

• I like that they kept all the original product packaging so it feels complete. I have been eyeing for a good foundation and review has it that Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control SPF 50++ is one of the best that is long lasting and non sticking. We shall see :)

Treat for my tired eyes... Petitfeé Gold EFG Eye & Spot Patch Mask. Couldn't wait to try this one!

I also got a jar of the 92% Aloe Vera Soothing gel which is suitable for sensitive skin. When I got them for RM22 a jar in Taipei city I thought that was a super good deal, until I came to know Althea!

• I like the prompt delivery and they kept you informed on the progress. Despite being shipped direct from Korea, the parcel arrived within 9 days from date of purchased. Their promise is within 10-15 days and that is reasonable for international shipping. As seen below, you can track your parcel online.

• I especially like the wide variety of choices on their website and the easy menu for navigation. If you are lucky you may even grab one or two of their limited time offer items!

• Last but not least, I really like their prices. Look at how much I paid for these items? All of them came with a pretty handsome discount! I have compared with other websites and a beauty chain store, they have the best price indeed just as they promised.

Now that I have tested their portal & service reliability, I could not wait to place my next order for their latest arrival!

*just submitted my second order, yay!*

Why am I sharing this on a parenting blog? Simply because I believe that.... Every Mothers deserved to be pretty too! ❤️❤️

Now, go and check out Althea today...

Xoxo,
PH

Volcano Day!

The duo is fascinated over volcano, influenced by the junior encyclopedic that I've been reading with them. Since I'm now having much free time as I had began my career break, I decided to surprise them with a man made volcano... It's so easy & so much fun to make with the kiddos!

What you need:
• an empty bottle (or a kid's cup)
• a large tray (to hold the "larva")
• aluminum foil
• red food coloring
• Soda powder / soda bicarbonate
• vinegar - used the cheapest on shelf will do

Psss.... In case you noticed some differences in the pictures below, that's because our first experiment failed. I used baking soda instead of soda powder! Failed experiment gave a learning point too. ;)

First, we setup the volcano with the aluminum foil.

Next, added the soda powder.

Then, some red coloring.

Now, vinegar... And watch it explodes!

Little C started screaming..

"Volcano!", she yelled.

"Run for your life!!", screamed a villager.

Now, go try it with your little scientist wanna be. It's a simple experiment that cost less than RM5 but the little ones will super love you for it!
