{Handmade} A Little Boy's Wallet

As we were reading a story about Mr Bill, the Concept of Money, as part of our usual bedtime routine, my little handsome asked if he can have a wallet, just like the elder sibling in the story who brought her money from the piggy bank with her to buy a birthday gift for the daddy. He was deeply interested to know that money can be used in exchange for bus service, for ice cream, present etc, and he was actively counting as we read from page to page. I have to agree that being a 5 years old now, it's about time he shall has a little boy's wallet.

So, after putting the duo to sleep, I made him this wallet.

Using the cute numbers fabric I bought nearly a year ago. Just perfect for a wallet... 

I had choosen plain blue and grey Polk-a-dot for the internal compartments. There is some smaller compartments for storing his coins too.

And of course a large compartment for the notes.

Added my personal label and a charm that says "made with love". Ah... Now this is definitely unwise and one of a kind! 

Made a matching button to keep his notes secure. :)

He was totally surprised and smiling cheek to cheek when he saw this little wallet the next morning, it's worth the effort to just to see his happy face.

He immediately asked for some notes and coins to fill up the wallet. A proud owner, he is. A proud designer, I am. :)

Oh, did I mentioned the small compartment in the middle is designed to fit one small pen or pencil? Only for little ones.

I shall post a tutorial later.  It's quite a bit of steps but really not too difficult, just that I will need some time to organise the photos and write up a proper tutorial. Unfortunately time is a rare commodity to me.

Me & Mini Me: Pretty in Polk-a-dot!

Somehow I was quite fond of peplum top lately, I know the peplum fever season was long gone (like a year ago?). Anyway I am not exactly a fashionholic and was never a runway chic, I just like design that fits me and look comfortably trendy, so it doesn't bother me to wear something that is out of season, and I was determined to make myself at least one peplum top.

Since I still have about 1 yard plus of Katty Miller's Gray Mini Dots fabric left after making the little Edelweiss dress for my sweetie pie, I though to just make a matching piece for myself to make this another Me & Mini Me collection. 

How do we look? My mini-me was doing a dance while we were singing Do-Re-Mi..

Here I was, test wearing the top moments after it was completed.

Making in progress. It is not as hard as I thought but to make a perfect fit, it sure takes a lot more practices and I have to admit I still have more to learn, especially when it comes to making adult apparels. :-/ 

This is my first attempt with peplum (and invisible zipper too!), I'm pretty pleased with the overall look of the top albeit it is a result of several alterations to better fit. However I shall try to improve my skill with the invisible zipper. Besides, I would think this design may look better on a satin fabric.

Anyway, I'm really happy with this latest addition to my Me & Mini Me series, even my girl was delighted to see me dressing in same fabric. So now we are going to celebrate by sharing a tub of ice cream!

{DIY} Cereal Box Townville... 10 Minutes Craft!

Remember I made a foldable felt playmat/house for my little boy as his surprise Christmas present 2 years ago, that is convertible to a small town? He still loving his playmat till today! You may check it out here..

I wish to make another for my little girl but the hardwork involved got me hesitated... It took a total of 8 weekends of at least 2 hours each, it still makes me sweat to think of it.. >.<

So today I made this easy peasy version of Townville using the cereal box instead. All in took me only 10 minutes! 

There's our home, a school, a castle (for the princess!), an ice cream store, a car workshop, a park and a pond. Pretty complete township isn't it? He he.

Have a tiny space to play? Just fold it in half and continue to play.

Want to spice it up? At some obstacles using the toilet paper rolls. Did I mentioned this craft is absolutely cost free? Well, probably cost your 20 cents for the water color at most. :)

Time to pack and go? It's easy. Just close it up!

Oh but wait a minute, there's a secret entrance for the tiny hotwheel cars. My duo are loving this secret entrance, it's actually the connecting bridge for the two sides.

So, don't throw away the cereal box too quick next time, make good use with it.. ;)

{Handmade}The Little Edelweiss Dress

So I sew again. Despite I had been working crazy hours in the recent weeks, I felt rather unrest that I had not sew for more than 2 weeks. On the wee Sunday morning when I woke up ahead of everyone else, I decided to make a new dress for my sweetie pie, something that i had been thinking about for sometimes - The Little Edelweiss Dress

I'm sure many of us grew up watching The Sound of Music, the all time favorite musical film. The wonderful music (remember Do-Re-Mi, Edelweiss, So long Farewell, The Sound of Music?), the amazing Alpine landscape of Salzburg (one of my dream destinations!) and the cute clothing the Von Trapp juniors wore. They inspired me to make this copycat version, I completed this dress without drafting a pattern. I know, I'm either bold or a fool... or both ;)

I was humming the song as I was working on the dress, a rather therapeutic moment.

The lovely shoulder ruffles in soft pink to match the tiny polkadot on the fabric. I had two candy buttons which is a perfect match to the dress.

I love how it looks on her. As if she has a pair of wings and ready to leap off to dance anytime.

Next, I am going to make her another Edelweiss dress, but this time, using another cute fabric that had been waiting patiently to be discovered among my stash of dusty fabric.

Sewing makes me happy.
