Me & Mini-Me Series: Pretty Mermaid in Blue!

I have always like blue color since young, I thought its a cool color; navy blue to be precise. My wardrobe has never been short of blue colors, so does my little captain's.

I found this soft blue stripy nylon fabric when I was visiting a local fabric store for some lining fabric. After keeping it on the shelf for few weeks, I finally converted it into this Me & Mini-Me set.

Here they are..

For my sweetie pie, I made her this Little Mermaid Dress by giving it an elastic band on top and creamy blue tulle at the bottom. Lets hope it will look sweet on her! And the little blue bow-knot hairpin I made earlier surely come handy.. :)

The shoulder strap is button-on so can be easily adjusted to fit her height. Gesh, how fast our kids grow, with this design it shall last her for at least a year or more. *grin*

The creamy blue tulle that gives the mermaid effect...

As for mommy, I have a simple wrap-over top. I came out with this design so I don't need  to use a zip (believe it or not, I have yet to try sewing zip yet >.<) and I thought this adds a designer feel to the blouse. I wore it to work and none of my colleague could tell its a homemade piece. *hehe*

A self portrait. Never thought I would be wearing my own handmade one day!

Thanks for stopping by, if you have mommy-daughter set too, feel free to share with me & the readers of this blog!

Till later, bye peeps!

Me & Mini-Me Series: Little Pink Tops

Here is another piece of Me-and-Mini Me that I designed few months back, just realised I have not posted them up despite my baby and I had been spotted wearing this over many weekends. I used a lovely cotton fabric in shades of rose pink, love the blossom feel.

For mommy's version, I copied the design  from one of my existing top, as for my mini-me, it was just a simple pillow-case dress but I added a little personalisation with a handmade rose.

I embroidered my initial onto the straps. Just for fun :)

Little Kid's Sling Bag (Reversible)

After making the the IKEA chair seat cover recently, I had some left over of the thick cotton fabric so I decided to make a sling bag for my little boy, who does need a bag for his piano lesson books. The current A4 pouch I bought for him is too small to hold all the books that he had accumulated over the past few months.

So I did some research and finally came across this blog by zaaberry that has just the right bag I want to make for my little musician.

This is what I managed to make, a playful sling bag that will certainly bright up a dull day..

After ploughing through the stack of fabrics I had on my shelves, I finally settled down with the red snowman Japanese cotton for the flap, it's a Christmas gift from my sister in law. I thought its a perfect match with the red stripes fabric, no? :)

I love to have options in life, so instead of plain inner lining, I made this into reversible bag that has different prints on both sides. He can choose which sides to use for the day depending on his mood, or perhaps to match his water bottle? :)

Fun Painting with Okra!

We had okra (or commonly known as lady's fingers) for dinner earlier and I kept one aside while cooking, for this - free style painting, or more like stamping with this little veggie. :)

I cut it into 3 chunks, and let my little boy mixed the colors as he wish in the palette. With only 3 different colors - blue, yellow, orange, we created a beautiful maze made of various pentagons.

Well... I'll be honest. It was just random stamping by both of us and after trying to figure out something that make sense out of the random stampis, I managed to convert it into a maze. Hehe. So, after I cahllended my little boy to complete the maze, which he did effortless and proudly announced its just too easy. :)

Anyway, we had fun and it's quite an interesting piece of art. :)

I would have used celery stems too unfortunate we have ran out of it, perhaps next time. You may also try out potato which allow freestyle stamping.

Psss.. You can choose to make your own homemade paint in case you are concern on safety hazard for your little ones. I found this simple recipe from http://www.hopkinshoppinhappenings.com/2012/04/homemade-finger-paint.html, looks really easie peasie!

A Mothers Day Gift for myself 手制母亲节礼物

It's Mothers Day this Sunday, how are you celebrating?

I have made myself this portable pouch for putting all my tiny stuff. Small but compact.

You see, I carry different bags on week days (a handsome looking leather tote for my notebook and such) and a casual canvas bag on the weekend (one that is big enough to put all my kiddos' extra stuff!). Often enough I forget to transfer my stuff over, such as my phone charger cable, reward points cards, pills, etc. lots of that "aiks" moment.

So, forget no more. Now I have a handy pouch for all the tiny stuff. Yah! This is probably the best gift I have ever made for myself, and I am going to make a few more of them for my sisters for this Mothers' Day.

So, what are you getting (or making) for yourself this Mothers' Day? Do share :)
