Day Trip to Sekinchan, The Land of Paddy Fields and Blue Skies 适耕庄家庭游

Sekinchan, a small fishing & paddy farming village located in outskirts of Selangor - not far after Kuala Selangor, is such an ideal place for family day trip. We spent a weekend there with our sibling families and we returned to town, tired but satisfied.

A place where the paddy fields meet the blue skies..

Here's why we liked the place..

• Sekinchan offers mixture of activities that are family friendly, from picture-perfect paddy fields/factory visit, a stroll or kite flying at the beach side, traditional temple visit or even just a walk down the fishing village. There are some homestays if you would like to stay overnight too.

Here are some photos I took during the visit.. Love the greens, such a feast to the eyes.

Some how there is something I really like about this lone tree.

• It is a blessed land with many local produces, you can easily buy rice (brown 糙米, pearl rice 珍珠米), mangoes, sweet pearl corns (珍珠玉米), water apple (水蓊), fish balls (鱼丸), fish cakes (鱼饼), kedongdong drink (山沙梨汁, a type of local fruit called hog plum, or Ambarella), keropok etc at very very attractive price; and of good quality that you can't find in town. I found some Sekinchan rice and corn-made noodles that is free of preservatives at a small stall next to a temple, 3 packets (about 12 noodles) for only RM10. The rice are selling at a rate than you can't find in any hypermarket in town too.

• Seafood are abundance in town and offered at reasonable price. We went to a shop that is famous for its shark porridge and another restaurant that is known for its playpot eels, fresh and delicious.

Shark porridge and fish balls for brunch, comes in plain or spicy flavor. It tasted just like white pomfret fish, sweet and soft texture.

Seafood lunch, From top left to bottom right: fried squids, kong-po eels, steamed fresh prawns, veggie and Thai style deep fried tofu. This meal cost us RM100.50 (equivalent to approximate USD$30).

So, whether you are here for seafood hunt, landscape photoshoot, relaxing family trip, Sekinchan is worth the visit.

However, do take note that:

• visiting to the paddy fields and beaches can be really hot, so do come prepared with sun block lotion, beach hat, sunglasses, umbrella, a pair of sandals and be equipped with drinking water.

• while the town is overall tourist friendly, it is not exactly baby friendly. Most places we visited are lack baby changing / nursery room, so do bring along your own nappy changing pad/supplies and nursing cover if you are breast feeding.

• unless you are familiar with the road, locating a street may not be that easy. Come prepared with a map and GPS to avoid disappointment.

• check the harvesting season before your visit, unless you don't mind to see an all yellow or empty paddy field. We visited on 1-June, just right before harvesting season begin. Below are taken from Sekinchan official website:

Out and around the temple..

Useful info..
To know more about the place, its map and to find out the paddy harvesting season, visit the official website at http://www.sekinchan.org.

Due to the short visit, we did no managed to try out all the eatery. Friends recommended grilled fish (ikan bakar), cendol bakar (grilled cendol, sound interesting!).. Well, perhaps the next visit :)
